Diagnostics and Imaging

Nothing is planned unseen.

The first step of a sound plan: digital X-rays, panoramic imaging and, where needed, a 3D scan.

What we see in the mouth is only part of the story. The roots of the teeth, the jawbone, the nerves and the sinuses only become visible through imaging.

Digital X-rays give an instant image at a lower dose than traditional film. A panoramic X-ray shows the whole mouth in one image, while a 3D scan lets the bone be studied from every side when planning implants or surgery.

Imaging is always done as needed and at the lowest dose. We always explain which image we ask for, and why.

Who it is for

  • A first examination and full assessment
  • Implant and surgical planning
  • Root canal treatment and follow-up
  • Orthodontic analysis

Options

  1. 01

    Periapical X-ray

A detailed view of the root of one or a few teeth and their surroundings.

  2. 02

    Panoramic X-ray

All the teeth, both jaws and the joints in a single image.

  3. 03

    3D scan

Lets the bone be studied from every side for implant and surgical planning.

  4. 04

    Clinical photography

Standardised photographs for aesthetic planning and follow-up.

The process

  1. Need

Which image is needed is decided from the findings of the examination.

  2. Exposure

    Taken quickly, with protective measures.

  3. Reading

The images are reviewed together and the findings explained clearly.

  4. Record

Images are stored securely for follow-up and comparison.

—The Dent BB approach

We treat imaging as a question, not a routine: we only take an image when its answer is truly needed.

Honest expectations

  • Every X-ray carries some radiation, however low, so none is taken without a reason.
  • Always tell us in advance if you might be pregnant.
  • Structures can overlap on 2D images; a 3D scan may then be needed.

Aftercare

  • Bring your previous X-rays and scans
  • Tell us if you might be pregnant
  • Remove jewellery and metal accessories before the exposure

Frequently asked

Are dental X-rays safe?

The dose of digital dental X-rays is very low. Even so, every image is justified and taken with protective measures.

Can I have an X-ray while pregnant?

Non-urgent images are usually postponed. When essential, they can be taken with protective measures after the dentist's assessment.

Why is a 3D scan needed?

For implants and some surgery, seeing the bone volume and the position of structures such as nerves in three dimensions makes planning safer.
